The World Health Organisation (WHO) has warned that the coronavirus pandemic will get worse “and worse and worse” if countries continued to disregard containment measures.
The global health body’s director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said many nations across the world were headed to the wrong direction on managing the pandemic.
Speaking in a virtual meeting on Monday, July 14, Tedros said out of the 230,000 cases recorded on Sunday, July 12, 10% were from 10 countries and 80% from two countries.
“If basics are not followed, the only way this pandemic is going to go – it is going to get worse and worse and worse,” the director-general said.
WHO’s warning came days after revealing that there was emerging evidence which showed that coronavirus was airborne.
Evidence that coronavirus could be transmitted through the air was brought to the attention of WHO by a team of about 239 scientists from 32 countries who have been studying the virus.
