English Premier League club Crystal Palace has completed the signing of central defender Marc Guehi from Chelsea for a reported fee of £20 million.

The 21-year-old inked a five-year contract that will keep him at Selhurst Park Stadium until 2026.

Guehi becomes new Palace manager Patrick Vieira’s third signing after Michael Olise and Remi Matthews.

“I’m very excited. It’s a great opportunity for me to come to such a big club in the Premier League. I’m really excited to get going,” Guehi told Crystal Palace’s website.

“[The club is taking] a really exciting direction with the new gaffer that’s come in. A lot of good young players are here and obviously such a stable club with top players really enticed me and made me want to come.”

Born in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, Guehi came through the Chelsea youth ranks after joining the club in 2007 from boyhood club Cray Wanderers. He made just two senior appearances for the club before making the permanent switch to Palace.

He has also represented England at various international youth levels. He was part of the England Under-17 side that won the World Cup in 2017, scoring in a 5-2 victory over Spain in the final.

Guehi joins the Eagles after a season-and-a-half on loan at Championship side Swansea City, where he played 59 games and helped to secure sixth- and fourth-placed league finishes consecutively.

He is expected to make his English Premier League debut when Palace begins their 2021/22 season against his former club Chelsea on 14th August.
