Teachers Service Commission plan to invite officers from Directorate of Criminal Investigations to unravel the age of Kenya National Union of Teachers chairman Wycliffe Omucheyi.

Sossion

Weekly Citizen was the first to report that Omucheyi had attained the age of 60 years and thus is not legible to hold Knut office. Already, TSC has raised a red flag on Omucheyi together with first vice-chairman Collins Oyuu on grounds that they are retired teachers.
In a letter signed by SM Njuguna of TSC, Omucheyi was to retire in March last year having been born on March 5 1958. It further states, “This is therefore to convey the decision to retire you belatedly with effect from March 5 2018.”

Omucheyi

The letter written on June 18 2019 further states, Omucheyi has completed the period for qualifying service and payment of pension.
One theory has it that Omucheyi was born in 1958, another claims he was born in 1961.
It has emerged that on January 16 2016, Omucheyi in a letter TSC CEO Nancy Macharia petitioned to retire voluntarily on age grounds and gave his birth date as July 11 1961.

Macharia

On June 26 2019, embattled secretary Wilson Sossion wrote to TSC reference, compulsory retirement on age grounds – Omucheyi Etole Wycliffe TSC /153212.
The letter states: “We are in receipt of your letter Ref No TSC 592121/130 dated 12th June 2019 with respect to Knut chairman – Mr Wycliffe Etole Omucheyi whereby you indicated his retirement on 3rd March 2018.”
“Please note that earlier on, we had made a similar inquiries and you gave us his date of birth as 1961. Also refer to Mr Omucheyi letter to chief executive officer – TSC dated January 6 2016, whereby he wrote declaring that he was retiring voluntarily from TSC on age grounds and he clearly stated his date of birth July 1 1961”
“It is in this regard that we ask you to urgently clarify to us the exact retirement date of Omucheyi as per the records held at the Teachers Service Commission.”
Sources say Omucheyi may have corruptly influenced his current ID to say he was born in 1961 for his own benefits. Surprisingly at TSC, documents state he was born in 1958, the information Omucheyi himself gave out.
DCI will have to investigate Omucheyi date of Application for Registration of Teachers licence which was on March 26 1979. If born in 1961, he was then 18 years old. But if born in 1958, he was then 21 years.
Oyuu wrote to TSC in November 2016 for early retirement to go into active politics.
A letter by Anne Katunge of TSC to Oyuu reads: “Kindly note that you did not resign but you applied for voluntary retirement with effect from November 23 2016 and a letter was issued to that effect”.
