Deputy President William Ruto has sent a message of condolence to the families and supporters of two life members of his party, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Wesley Kago died on Thursday morning after the public service vehicle he had boarded rammed into a bus while trying to evade a collision with an incoming truck in Kangemi. He was going for an interview on Kalenjin vernacular radio station Kass FM.
He was was the only passenger who died before being taken to hospital, but nine others sustained minor and serious injuries.
In a separate incident, Nancy Wanjala Mwashume also died in a road accident in Voi along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway.
Sadly, it’s double tragedy for her family as she was on her way to her rural home to attend the burial of her brother, who will be laid to rest on Saturday.
The DP noted that it was heartbreaking to lose two UDA politicians, who were preparing to run for office in the upcoming General Election.
“The United Democratic Alliance commiserates with the families, relatives and friends of Wesley Kibet Kogos who was one of our parliamentary aspirants for Nandi Hills constituency and Nancy Wanjala Mwashume Mwashuma of Chaani Ward in Mombasa County who passed on through road accidents.
“We pray to God to comfort their families and constituents. The UDA family stands with them during these difficult times,” he wrote on his social media pages.
Kogo was selling himself as the people’s choice after some residents of Nandi Hills raised Ksh1.6 million for his campaigns towards the end of last year.
He was to face off with the sitting MP Alfred Keter, who has served for two terms.
Mwashume, a teacher by profession, resigned as the deputy principal of Coast Girls High School earlier this year to nurture her political ambition.
