DP William Ruto Picks Rigathi Gachagua as His Running Mate

Deputy President William Ruto has picked Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua as his running mate ahead of the 9th August General Election.

Speaking from his Karen residence on Sunday, 15th May the Deputy President said he had reached the choice after a candid extensive discussion with the leaders of the Kenya Kwanza coalition.

“We had an intensive meeting and amongst the issues we prosecuted were integration of the new members, formalization of the engagement, campaign program, and how to coordinate and harmonise our agenda from the different parties,” DP Ruto said.

“After lengthy consultations, we have settled on MP Rigathia Gachagua as my deputy,” DP Ruto announced.

The deputy president said he was looking to work with other leaders who did not make the final shortlist.

He congratulated the candidates that made the shortlist for the position including Kirinyaga governor Ann Waiguru, national Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi, Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro and Tharaka Nithi senator Kithure Kindiki.

The Deputy President was to announce his deputy on Saturday, May 14 but the entire process was postponed due to a standoff after his selection team was divided between the choice of Senator Kindiki and Gachagua.
