Ex-Kwale Woman Rep Zainab Chidzuga is Dead

Former Kwale County Woman Representative Zainab Chidzuga is dead.

Chidzuga, 65, passed away on Thursday afternoon, 12th August, at the Nairobi Hospital, her son, Hassan Chidzuga, confirmed.

According to reports, Chidzuga died of suspected Covid-19-related complications

She was also the mother of former KTN news anchor Mwanaisha Chidzuga.

She served as Kwale County Woman Representative from 2013 to 2017. She was elected on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket.

She lost the seat to Zuleikha Hassan, the current Kwale Woman Representative who ran on a Jubilee Party ticket.

Before joining politics, Zainab was the Coast Province treasurer for Maendeleo ya Wanawake Organisation (MYWO) for more than 20 years. She also served as the chairperson, MYWO Kwale District.

Deputy President William Ruto mourned the former MP as a visionary leader who served the people of Kwale County with dedication.

“We have lost a selfless and visionary leader who served the people of Kwale with dedication. Mheshimiwa Zainab Chidzuga was progressive, steadfast, and focussed. We will remember her as a champion of women empowerment,” DP Ruto said.

Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho eulogised Chidzuga as a true champion who always championed the improvement of the lives of the people of Kwale.

“Clouds of sadness hang over the coast as we mourn the passing on of our beloved sister, Hon Zainab Chidzuga, the former Kwale County Women Representative. She was a true champion who always stood up to improve the lives of the people of Kwale,” Joho tweeted.
