A former presidential aspirant whose entrance into the hotly competitive race caused a stir Dr. Lihanda Savai has passed away.
According to one of his sons Mr. Abinayo Lihanda, a resident of sprawling slums of Kibera, Dr. Lihanda whose humble background helped laced with 2007 with pomp succumbed to high blood pressure last week at home and body taken to Mbale hospital mortuary.
He said his father who has been in and out of the hospital due to his deteriorating condition died at his home in Sabatia, Vihiga County.
Following his silent death family members and other funeral organizers have appealed to Kenyan leaders including President Uhuru Kenyatta, Deputy President William Ruto and opposition chief Raila Odinga to chip in and ensure he’s offered a decent send off.
His son Lihanda while flanked by a host of African church of the Holy Spirit leaders during an exclusive interview with Weekly Citizen extended the appeal to other well-wishers.
‘We are appealing to people from all walks of Kenya to offer our family any necessary support at this trying moment that we are mourning our beloved father who proved his love for Kenya following his attempts to become President of the nation’’, said Lihanda.
According to Mr. Lihanda and the church elders who have identified themselves as the chief organizers of the funeral service, the ceremony is expected to consume at sh1 million but which the improvised family is unable to raise.
‘I have nothing to offer my father’s funeral service the status it requires given his political background and as we speak the burden is staring at me and my jobless brother who initially worked at Mumias sugar company’’, stated Lihanda.
