Field Marshal Dedan Kimathi /Patrice Lumumba memorial event banned in Nyeri

Security  committee in Nyeri county has banned a parallel) Madaraka day celebrations by a heroes recognition lobby group led by former Nyeri Town MP /Moi regime detainee Wanyiri Kihoro.The event was scheduled to happen at the Mau Mau monument located at the junction of Dedan Kimathi way and Patrice Lumumba street in Nyeri Town on June 1, 2019( Madaraka day).

The cancelled high hyped event was aimed at piling pressure on the Kenya government to release the remains of Mau Mau hero Dedan Kimathi for a decent and heroic burial. Listed speakers at the banned event included former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and second liberation heroes Koigi Wa Wamwere and Njeru Kathangu. A letter signed by Deputy Police regional commander in Nyeri county Bernard Amukule outlawed the event.

“Madaraka day( June 1) every year was gazetted by the Kenya government as a national holiday. The Madaraka day fetes in Nyeri County will be marked at Othaya stadium in Othaya Sub County in which county governor Mutahi Kahiga and local national government officials will address people at the event,” said police boss.

The police boss noted that there was need for security preservation and free how of traffic at the junction of Kimathi way and Lumumba Street in Nyeri Town adding that the lobby should offer another convenient day
