The government will not waiver in its commitment to restore peace and security in Marsabit Central Sub-County, which has of late witnessed a surge in armed crime.

Consequently, a war against possession of illegal firearms has been intensified with two suspects believed to be members of marauding bandits behind a spate of attacks in Marsabit town and its environs being arrested Wednesday.

Marsabit County Commissioner Paul Rotich said the duo was arrested at their hideout in Manyatta Jillo Estate where a gun and a toy pistol were recovered.

Rotich said the suspects identified as Guyo Dido Wario, 49, and Guyo Karayu, 36, were found in possession of an AK47 assault rifle loaded with a magazine of 30 rounds of ammunition.

The county commissioner added that one magazine loaded with 16 rounds of ammunition and one empty magazine were also recovered during the daytime security operation.

A toy pistol and an assortment of mobile phones were recovered from the suspects who are undergoing interrogation by the DCI.

Residents of Marsabit town lauded the action by the police saying insecurity had impacted negatively on their lives.

Rotich, who is also the chairman of the county security and intelligence committee told KNA on the phone that the operation to get rid of criminals and illicit firearms in the area had just begun and asked those in possession of the illegal weapons to surrender them voluntarily rather than wait for the security team to catch up with them.
