Five people have been arrested in connection to the death of a 45- year- old man who was reportedly killed and buried in a shallow grave at Terenin village in Baringo North.

The suspects Vincent Chebii, Hillary Chebet, Cosmas Kokwan, Ignitious Cherop and Vincent Komen are alleged to have killed Stanley Sumukwo after a drinking spree before they buried his lifeless body in a shallow grave.

Confirming the incident, Baringo North sub county police commander Fredrick Odinga said that the deceased was reported missing on February 19 but the family failed to report the matter to the police of a missing person.

The police commander said that after the victim went missing area chief Isaiah Cheruiyot mounted a search in collaboration with the locals.

“The area chief was helping the family in the search of Sumukwo, only to receive a call on February 28 from a villager called Samson Chesire who confessed to have been part of the group that had buried the deceased at his farm” Odinga stated.

The officer noted that the chief with members of the public visited the farm and found the shallow grave with the lifeless body of Sumukwo before he subsequently informed officers from Bartabwa police station to collect the body.

The body was exhumed and taken to Baringo county referral morgue awaiting postmortem examination.

On Tuesday Bernard Asirigwa, an officer attached to Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) presented a miscellaneous application before Kabarnet Chief Magistrate Judith Wanjala requesting to hold the suspects for 14 days pending investigations.

Asirigwa noted that the days were meant to help in recording statements from the witnesses, perform postmortem, tracing the main suspect who is still at large and to conduct mental assessment of the suspects.

The chief magistrate ordered the suspects to be remanded at Kabarnet Police station and fixed March 15 as the mention date.
