Garissa Governor Ali Korane’s bid to retain his seat has suffered a major blow, after his deputy Abdi Dagane joined hands with his main rival.

Dagane who has had a frosty relationship with Korane throughout his tenure will now be Former Governor Nathif Jama running mate following an endorsement by his samawadhal clan.

He was unveiled in a colorful ceremony attended by County leaders led by Senator Abdul Haji, sultan Hassan Osman Shurie, as well as professionals and community members.

Speaking during the event Dagane said he has officially cut links with Governor Korane and will going forward mobilize support for Jama.

He accused Korane of frustrating him saying he was never given an opportunity to discharge his duties.

“In all honesty I was just a Deputy Governor by name but not by performing functions that were expected of me, this was a government where the Governor was literary running and remote controlling everything. there is little I could do,” he said.

On his part the former governor said that he was fully aware and conscious of the different sentiments that surrounded the selection of Dagane but was quick to add that following wide consultations he had decided to accept and work with Dagane as his deputy.

“I have had the privilege of working with Dagane in the past at First Community Bank and I knew him as a diligent, result-oriented worker. I have no doubt in my mind that he will help me restore our lost glory so that together we can back our great county right on track,” Jama said.

Several leaders who spoke among them senator Haji and Ijara MP Sophia Abdi Noor assured their counterparts that their community will make sure that more than 90 percent vote for Jama.

Haji said the choice of Dagane was not carried out by an individual but by a committee that was tasked with fronting one candidate from the community.
