The highest daily fatality rates from
Covid-19 in Kenya was recorded today after 12 more patients succumbed to the
Corona virus disease today, raising the death toll to 197 people.

189 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed bringing total cases to 10, 294.

65 Covid-19 patients had also been
discharged from various health facilities and hospitals across the country, bringing
the total to 2946.

This was reported by Cabinet Secretary for Health, Mutahi Kagwe during Ministry of Health daily briefing on the Covid-19 pandemic at Afya house in Nairobi.

Kagwe noted that the new cases were
discovered from 1,205 samples tested in the last 24 hours and clarified that
the drop in sample testing came as a result of a severe issue leading to the decrease
testing capacity.

Kagwe also announced the rolling out of a web-based application for contact tracing and surveillance by the Ministry that is connected to medical facilities.

The application was developed by Ministry of Health in collaboration with development partners. The CS noted that the application will aid in rapid contact tracing and quick response to emergency issues, unlike the phone calls.

He emphasized on the fact that health
facilities across the country are in good condition and they have adequate
Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs), unlike the opinion of some Kenyans. He
also added that they have even deployed a total of219 surveillance team to all
the counties to support in contact tracing.

“We have got more PPEs at the moment than we need. So it’s a question of individual hospitals and individual units ensuring that they have got them.

“We have not received any information
from the management of hospitals in Nairobi that they don’t have PPEs. There’s
no issue because we’ve got more than enough PPEs,” he maintained.
