A day after Citizen TV exposed the
controversial operations of Endmor Steel Millers that was a nightmare to
Syokimau residents, the government has taken decisive action.

Following the public outcry about their devastating
heath condition and a reported death caused by the dangerous air pollution from
the factory, the County Government of Machakos has finally cracked the whip by
revoking the license of the Endmor Steel Millers.

This has come after Citizen TV exposed the
kind of health risks that the factory has subjected the residents of Syokimau.

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua said that
he has taken this action of revoking the license of the factory to protect the
health of the residents.

“They will close down by this evening.
There is a matter pending in court by the National Environment Management
Authority (NEMA) and has to be concluded. All we had to do was to stop them
from operating. The company will only resume after it complies,” stated the
Governor.

He further lamented that the residents cannot be facing double death traps posed by both Coronavirus disease and pollution coming from the steel factory which has been operating illegally despite the court orders for their closure.

The governor said that the factory will
only operate once they comply with the Occupational Health and safety
Standards, National Environment Management Authority Regulations, Machakos
County Government Regulations and Ministry of Health Regulations on Covid-19
pandemic.
