The graft case facing Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa will now be heard on 15th August after a Mombasa court agreed to give her time to focus on her Kilifi gubernatorial campaign.
Jumwa sought reprieve from the Court to postpone the case saying campaigns for her candidature were hectic and time consuming.
She further told the court that one of her lawyers, Cliff Ombeta is also on the campaign trail and his absence would affect her defence.
Through her lawyer Danstan Omari, Jumwa told the Court that her opponents would use the case to taint her bid saying it was only fair the case is postponed to allow her concentrate on her bid to succeed Amason Kingi.
She is accused of embezzling the Ksh 19 million from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and is charged alongside six others among them Wachu Omar Abdalla who is the Malindi CDF Account Manager.
They face various offenses like forgery and fraud in procurement and abuse of office.
The MP is also facing murder charges alongside her bodyguard in another case where they are accused of killing Gumbao Jola in Ganda in 2019.
