Some people hatched a plot to cash in during the State Burial of retired President Mwai Kibaki in Othaya, Nyeri County this afternoon.

As the service was going on, the conmen started to circulate baskets, claiming that they were from the church.

They wanted the mourners to give their offerings.

One of these clergymen had to inform the crowd that the church had not authorised anyone to collect money.

The announcement by the cleric threw the mourners, including President Uhuru Kenyatta, into fits of laughter.

Kibaki’s State Burial is currently ongoing at the Othaya Approved School.

This is the second State Funeral of Kenya’s third President after another one was conducted on Friday at the Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi.

In yesterday’s ceremony, the Catholic Church, which was presiding over the event together with the military, collected offerings from Kenyans.
