BBC Journalist, Ian Wafula has set a standard for homeowners. He has built a luxury tiny house on an old truck.

The house located in Machakos is set to target couples who are looking for a staycation. It has a barbeque, stargazing deck a pool and a cinema.

“The journey began in July 2020 at a yard in Thika. This dusty and rusty XGK-lorry needed a home as it was being auctioned. Instead, it ended up becoming a home. We towed it to Kyumbi, near Machakos Junction.”

The bio for the truck house describes it as “Kenya’s first tiny home built on wheels. Designed for couples, close friends or anyone in need of a time out! Sleeps 2.”

Announcing the official opening of the truck house, Ian said,

“Let me formally introduce you to @the_truckhouse, Kenya’s first tiny home built on wheels and my home-but designed for you! It’s been a crazy six months! I’ve learnt, taken risks, made sacrifices and tried to enjoy every bit of it. Special thanks to my family and friends for the support system they have offered me. Construction is stressful! We are live on Airbnb starting this coming weekend. (7th May). #tinyhome #tinyhouse.”
