ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru has retaliated against Deputy President William Ruto and his allies for questioning his choice to support Raila Odinga of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party in the election for State House.

This comes after Kenya Kwanza leaders led by Governor Josphat Nanok insinuated on Thursday that the CS was preparing to sway the conduct and outcome of the elections in Odinga’s favor, considering his ministry’s crucial role in facilitating the August elections.

Mucheru was also chastised by the Turkana governor, who accused him of utilizing State resources to rally support for Odinga before of the election.

Mucheru took to Twitter to criticize Nanok for the comments, alleging that the outgoing Turkana governor was also using public resources to campaign for DP Ruto.

As a result, Mucheru emphasized, Nanok is unable to throw the first stone at him.

“A Governor is writing to IEBC about a CS in the same Government, explaining how he will spend resources. How about the Governor and the DP? What are their resources? Who is deceiving whom?” he posed.

Nanok said on Thursday that the ICT Ministry’s position affects the August polls’ verifiability, transparency, accountability, and legitimacy, therefore the CS should at the very least be cautious while communicating with Odinga to avoid raising eyebrows.

He also requested the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to take action against Mucheru and other CSs, alleging that they were planning to sabotage the polls.

A few days ago, Mucheru while accompanying Raila in Nyeri said they are working behind the scenes to ensure the Azimio flag bearer carries the day.

He added that “the system is not asleep”.
