I’m worth Sh. 30.9 million

The newly appointed Auditor-General, Nancy Gathungu, is worth Sh. 30.89 million. This has been revealed by disclosures made to a parliamentary vetting committee.

Although she did not offer wealth breakdowns, Gathungu said that she has assets worth Sh. 40.42 million and liabilities of Sh. 9. 33 million. She was vetted by the National Assembly committee on Finance and National Planning.

Gathungu was nominated by President Uhuru Kenyatta on June 19, after emerging top among three candidates presented to him by the Recruitment Panel that was hiring the Auditor General.

She has succeeded Edward Ouko and will serve for an 8-year nonrenewable term.

Prior to her current position, Nancy Gathungu worked as the Director of Audit in the Office of the Auditor-General.

Nancy was employed in the office of Auditor General as an Audit associate in 1993 before being promoted in 1997 by the Public Service Commission (PSC) as an auditor of all Public Educational institutions in Central province.

She was recruited in 2000 as Senior Auditor by KNH, the largest referral hospital in East and central Africa staffing up to 5,000 employees, before being appointed as KNH Chief Internal Auditor in 2004.

In 2006, she was appointed as an Assistant Director of Audit at the office of the Controller of Budget and was part of the team that set up the Specialized Audit Services and headed the Quality assurance and IT Audit Divisions.

In 2010 she was promoted to the rank of Deputy Director of Audit where she handled Communication and International Liaison and developed the first communication policy for the office as well as expanding partnerships with various Development partners and more Developed Supreme Audit Institutions.

She was deployed to Head the Corporate Services Department pending recruitment of a deputy Auditor General in 2011.

That same year she was deployed as Personal Assistant to the Auditor General after a deputy Auditor General was Recruited charged with the responsibility of providing technical assistance to the then transitional Authority that would oversee transition to devolution in the country.

Nancy would then be appointed to Head the Forensic Audit Directorate, Where she restructured the division for more effective and efficient service delivery.

She is a fellow of the International Auditor Fellowship Program that is facilitated by the office of the US Government Accountability Centre and selected by peers to give the graduation speech during its coronation.
