Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya presidential candidate Raila Odinga has been facing criticism lately for allegedly sleeping at public functions.

His political foes, the majority of whom are supporters of Deputy President William Ruto, are having field days on social media networks, mocking the former Prime Minister.

Several photos of the former Prime Minister having a nap while in his seat circulated online.

However, some of the pictures are manipulated to drive a narrative against the opposition chief.

Critics argue that he is too old to lead.

When he was in United Kingdom a few weeks ago, a photo of Raila sleeping during a meeting with Kenyans living in Britain was widely shared.

Litkenya.com independently established that the photo was photoshopped.

Interestingly, no videos of Raila sleeping have surfaced. Why only photos?

Dr Ruto’s camp, known for it vibrant social media strategies, has been trying to use Raila’s age to discredit him as unfit to lead a population whose signature is the youth.

Raila’s speeches have also been scrutinised thoroughly, with some saying they are barely coherent due to his advanced age.

A few months ago, the former Premier became a laughing stock after he forgot what he was saying during a charged campaign rally in Machakos County.

He turned to Suna East MP Junet Mohamed and asked him: “What was I saying?”

Further, AU High Representative for Roads and Infrastructure has been halting his speeches when the crowd cheer excessively or blow vuvuzelas.

Many a time his handlers have been forced to encourage him to move on his speech despite the noise, which seems to be irritating his ears.

All the same, political propaganda has surged in recent months and situation can only get worse as the General Election beckons.
