It was double celebrations in the Odinga family on Tuesday. August 24, as two special occasions happened.
As ODM leader Raila Odinga’s wife Mama Ida was marking her 71st birthday, her daughter-in-law was somewhere giving her the best birthday gift ever.
Yvonne Wambui, the wife to Raila Odinga Junior, who is Mama Ida and the former Prime Minister’s son, welcomed a newborn.
Junior and Wambui were blessed with a bouncing baby boy.
The elated new father in town took to his Twitter handle to thank his wife for making his mother happy on her special day.
“She gave my mum @Ida Odinga the best birthday present in the world. Thank you and God bless you. I love you so much,” he wrote.
The couple now has two children, both of them boys.
In 2019, Junior revealed in a radio interview that he and his wife struggled for years to get a child.
“I hope Yvonne will allow me to disclose this. We had been married for a long time and we were not able to get a child in the very fast years. We struggled for a very long time for about five years and eventually, God blessed us with our firstborn,” he said.
He added that family and friends made the matter worse, as they would keep asking why the two did not have a baby after years of marriage.
“Yvonne and I were so okay not being able to conceive for those years, but the frustrations became unbearable because of the pressure from outside. I also tried hard not to subject Yvonne to more pressure,” Junior said.
