Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka shocked everyone this morning morning when turned up to vetted for the position of running mate in the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party.

Kalonzo faced a seven-member selection panel at the Serena Hotel in Nairobi to explain why he should be considered to be Raila Odinga’s deputy.

Kalonzo, on the other hand, appears to have altered his mind at the last minute.

Just yesterday, he stated categorically that he would not be attending the interviews, calling the procedure “demeaning to his status.”

The former vice president claimed that the Azimio la Umoja group understood he was the best candidate for Odinga’s running mate, but that they were involved in an excessively convoluted process that yielded little.

The Raila deputy seat had at least 11 individuals shortlisted.

On Monday, May 9, Martha Karua, the leader of the Narc-K party, Sabina Chege, the Murang’a Woman Representative, Hassan Joho, and Wycliffe Oparanya came before the Committee of Eminent Persons.

Former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth, Agriculture CS Peter Munya, and Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui are among those on the shortlist.

Speaking to members of the press after the interview, Kalonzo it was more of a conversation.

He disclosed that he decided to appear before the Noah Wekesa-led team because he did not want Azimio to shortchange him on grounds that he was defiant.
