Karan Patel takes over night lead of Equator Rally in Naivasha

Rally Driver Karan Patel navigated by Tauseef Khan in a Ford Fiesta took an overnight lead in Equator Rally, the 3rd round of the Kenya National Rally Championship, KNRC, in Soysambu, Naivasha.

Karan Patel took the lead after day one of the rally which also serves as a leg of Africa Rally Championship, ARC after posting a cumulative time of 1:46.55.

Jeremy Wahome navigated by Victor Okundi were placed in second position three seconds behind with Jasmeet Chana and Ravi Chana completing the top three places in a time of 1:48.26

 

 

The championship which will come to an end Sunday is being used as a curtain raiser for the WRC Safari Rally Kenya which is scheduled to be held between the 23rd and 26th of June.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Ambassador Amina Mohammed who attended the rally reiterated the government’s support to the sport.

‘’The presence of renowned local and regional rally drivers is also a stamp of approval for the proficiency and professionalism in the planning and execution of this competition, and the quality of the competition itself. Beyond this, we are working to grow motorsport among our junior and women rally drivers by offering them the structural and technical support needed to enable them to compete at top level’’, Amina remarked.

 

 

This event is a yard stick to gauge our preparedness for the 2022 WRC Safari Rally as we work towards giving the World an exceptional rally experience’’, the CS added.

Kenya MotorSport Federation boss Phineus Kimanthi said the rally will enable organizers to test their teams’ systems and preparedness to host a World Rally Championship.

A total of 19 cars began the rally which was flagged off at Kenya Wildlife Training Institute and will take on a total of 389kms of which 134kms are competitive.
