Kenyan rapper KayCyy, born Mark Makora Mbogo, has been nominated by American Hip-hop magazine XXL for an opportunity to appear on their coveted 10th Spot cover for 2022. The cover usually features 10 up and coming rappers to watch. KayCyy becomes the first Kenyan to be nominated for the opportunity.

Cover class of 2012

The nomination comes days after KayCyy won a Grammy for his work on the Kanye West song “Hurricane” from the Donda album. KayCyy is credited as a writer and guest performer on the track and on the album Donda which was nominated for Album of The Year.

XXL’s Freshmen list has a history of showcasing unknown/underground rappers, as well as artists considered to be on the rise and with his Grammy win, KayCyy is on the up and up.

If KayCyy wins, he will be the first Kenyan and East African to ever be featured on the coveted 10th Spot Freshmen cover.
