Kenya: KCB Signs MSMEs Deal With Tharaka-Nithi to Train 400 Youth

Nairobi — Hundreds of youth from Tharaka-Nithi county are expected to receive technical-vocational skills training and thereafter access to funding to create Micro, Small and Medium enterprises from the KCB Foundation, over the next two years.

KCB Foundation is playing its part at economic revival by tackling youth unemployment at county level through supporting the creation of small and medium enterprises and youth skills training.

Speaking on the partnership KCB Head of Foundation, Caroline Wanjeri noted that “KCB Group is dedicated to supporting the youth as we continue to navigate the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. A lot of the young businesses were affected by the pandemic, and as a responsible corporate citizen, we believe that we have a duty to support them in the revival of our economy.”

The partnership will be executed under KCB Foundation’s 2jiajiri programme that focuses on youth skills development and job creation through enterprise development, operating across the country.

“Importantly, under the 2jiajiri programme, we not only provide funding to set up the enterprises but also provide business incubation and development services for the beneficiaries to ensure these businesses reach stability and maturity stages” she added.

The KShs. 16 million partnership deal will see the county youth trained in the technical sectors of automotive Industry, construction, beauty & personal care and domestic services, through accredited locally based TVETs in the county.

On his part, Tharaka-Nithi county Governor Muthomi Njuki noted that the county is keen in generating sustainable decent jobs and income-generating activities for its youth and spur economic development at a grassroots level.
