Kenya records 345 new Covid-19 cases as 24 succumb – KBC

The Ministry of Health has recorded 345 new Covid-19 cases from a sample size of 6,686 tested in the last 24 hours bringing the positivity rate to 5.2%.

From the cases 339 are Kenyans while 6 are foreigners with 195 being males and 150 females. The youngest is a two-year-old-baby while the oldest is 94 years.

In a statement Tuesday, Health Cabinet Secretary Senator Mutahi Kagwe noted that total confirmed positive cases are now 160,904 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 1,688,106.

Distribution of positive cases by age is as follows; 0-9 years (10), 10-19 years (17), 20-29 years (53), 30-39 years (86), 40-49 years (59), 50-59 years (59), 60 and above (61).

In terms of County distribution; Nairobi 75, Uasin Gishu 49, Mombasa 35, Kisumu 29, Kitui 26, Kilifi 16, Meru and Embu 13 cases each, Machakos 9, Nakuru 10, Nyamira and Trans Nzoia 9 cases each, Kericho 6, Laikipia 5, Kiambu, Nandi and Siaya 4 cases each, Homa Bay, Kajiado, Kakamega, Murang’a and Nyandarua 3 cases each, Nyeri, Tharaka Nithi, Vihiga and West Pokot 2 cases each, Bomet, Bungoma, Kirinyaga, Kisii, Makueni and Migori 1 case each.

In terms of Sub County distribution; the 75 cases in Nairobi are from Kibra (9), Kasarani (8), Westlands (7) Kamukunji and Makadara (5) cases each, Dagoretti North, Embakasi Central, Langata, Ruaraka and Starehe (4) cases each, Dagoretti South Embakasi East, North, South and West, Mathare and Roysambu (3) cases each.

In Uasin Gishu the 49 cases are from Moiben (36), Ainabkoi (6), Kapseret (3), Soy (2), Kesses and Turbo (1) case each. In Mombasa the 35 cases are from Mvita (24), Nyali (3), Changamwe, Jomvu, Kisauni and Likoni (2) cases each.

In Kisumu the 29 cases are from Kisumu Central (20), Kisumu West and Nyando (3) cases each, Kisumu East (2) and Muhoroni (1). In Kitui the 26 cases are from Mwingi West (7), Kitui South and Mwingi Central (5) cases each, Kitui Central and Kitui East (3) cases each, Kitui West (2) and Mwingi North (1).

In Kilifi the 16 cases are from Kilifi North (9), Magarini (6) and Malindi (1). In Meru the 13 cases are from Imenti North (4), Igembe Central, North and Imenti Central (2) cases each, Imenti South, Tigania East and West (1) case each.

In Embu the 13 cases are from Manyatta (12) and Mbeere North (1). In Machakos the 9 cases are from Mwala (3), Yatta (2), Athi River, Kalama, Kathiani and Machakos Town (1) case each. In Nakuru the 10 cases are from Nakuru West (4), East (3), Gilgil, Njoro and Subukia (1) case each. In Nyamira the 9 cases are from Nyamira Town (6), Manga, Masaba North and Nyamira North (1) case each.

In Trans Nzoia the 9 cases are from Kwanza (3), Cherangany, Kiminini and Saboti (2) cases each. In Kericho the 6 cases are from Ainamoi and Belgut (2) cases each, Bureti and Kipkelion East (1) case each.

In Laikipia the 5 cases are from Laikipia East (3) and West (2). In Kiambu the 4 cases are from Ruiru (2), Kiambu Town and Kikuyu (1) case each. In Nandi the 4 cases are from Nandi Hills (2), Chesumei and Emgwen (1) case each and in Siaya the 4 cases are from Alego Usonga, Bondo, Gem and Rarieda (1) case each.

The 3 cases in Homa Bay are from Homa Bay Town, Karachuonyo and Mbita (1) case each, the 3 cases in Kajiado are from Kajiado Central, East and North (1) case each, the 3 cases in Kakamega are from Ikolomani, Likuyani and Lurambi (1) case each, the 3 cases in Murang’a are from Kandara, Kigumo and Muranga South (1) case each while the 3 cases in Nyandarua are from Kinangop, Oljororok and Ol Kalou (1) case each.

The 2 cases in Nyeri are from Nyeri Central, the 2 cases in Tharaka Nithi are from Chuka and Igambangombe (1) case each, the 2 cases in Vihiga are from Luanda and Vihiga (1) case each and the 2 cases in West Pokot are from Pokot Central and South (1) case each.

The case in Bomet is from Bomet Central, the case in Bungoma is from Webuye East, the case in Kirinyaga is from Kirinyaga Central, the case in Kisii is from Bonchari, the case in Makueni is from Makueni and the case in Migori is from Kuria West.

The CS said 140 patients have recovered from the disease, 82 from Home Based and Isolation Care, while 58 are from various health facilities countrywide. Total recoveries now stand at 109,217 of whom 79,525 are from Home Based Care and Isolation while 29,692 are from various health facilities.

Sadly, 24 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours, with one having occurred in the last 24 hours, 15 on diverse dates within the last one month and 8 are late death reports from facility record audits. This now pushes cumulative fatalities to 2,805.

New deaths by age; 0-9 years (0), 10-19 years (0), 20-29 (0), 30-39 years (2), 40-49 years (4), 50-59 years (4), 60 years and above (14).

Cumulative deaths by age; 0-9 years (53), 10-19 years (20), 20-29 (103), 30-39 years (236), 40-49 years (365), 50-59 years (609), 60 years and above (1,419).

A total of 1,230 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 6,654 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.  154 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 26 of whom are on ventilatory support and 101 on supplemental oxygen. 27 patients are on observation.

Another 117 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 109 of them in general wards and 8 in High Dependency Units (HDU).

A total of 894,076 persons have so far been vaccinated against the COVID-19 disease countrywide as of today (Tuesday).

Of these 275,453 are aged 58 years and above, Health workers, 158,772, Teachers 139,221, Security Officers 75,169 and 245,461 belong to the others category.
