Kenya Records 531 Covid-19 Cases as 20 More Patients Succumb – LitKenya

The Ministry of Health on Saturday, 3rd July, confirmed 531 new Covid-19 cases from 8,154 samples tested in the last 24 hours, bringing the country’s caseload to 185,591.

This has raised to 1,978,155 the cumulative number of samples tested since March last year. The country’s positivity rate now stands at 6.5 per cent.

In a statement issued in Nairobi, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced that from the new cases, 515 are Kenyans while 16 are foreigners. There are 257 females and 274 males. The youngest is a one-year-old baby while the oldest is 93.

Kenya’s death toll rose to 3,671, after 20 more patients succumbed to the virus.

Kagwe said that a total of 276 patients have recovered from the disease, 151 are from the home-based and isolation care programme while 125 are from various health facilities. The total number of recoveries now stands at 126,956.

There are 1,144 patients admitted to various health facilities, while 5,785 patients are under home-based isolation and care programme. 

Some 124 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 39 of whom are on ventilatory support, 51 on supplemental oxygen and 34 patients under observation.

Another 152 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 137 of them in the general wards and 15 in the High Dependency Units (HDU).

Vaccination: A total of 1,468,908 vaccines had so far been administered across the country. The total first doses are 1,016,190 while the second ones are 452,718.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is at 44.6 per cent with the majority being males at 55 per cent while females are at 45 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated is 1.74 per cent.

The uptake of the second dose by priority groups is as follows: Aged 58 and above, 140,779, others 125,572, health workers 90,214, teachers 61,688 while security officers are at 34,465.
