Oketch took home the one million dollar prize.
24-year-old seminary student Maryanne Oketch is the winner of Survivor Season 42. With this win, Maryanne becomes the second black woman to win the series’ 42 seasons run.
With seven votes, Maryanne Oketch was crowned the winner, beating out firefighter Mike Turner and pageant coach Romeo Escobar, who joined her in the final three.
Heading into the episode, five contestants were still vying for the $1 million prize, but Lindsay Dolashewich was voted out in the first tribal council of the finale and Jonathan Young lost his shot in the final three after coming up short in a fire-making challenge.
Throughout the season, Oketch was open about wearing her emotions on her sleeve and in a recent interview she opened up about her “emotional” playing.
“That was something that I struggled with throughout the whole game. But I really feel that in the end, I always made the right decision. So even if I played emotionally, I was like, “No, we’re gonna have to fix this.” And then, I fixed it and moved on,” she said.
