The five cases were reported in Nairobi and four in Mombasa aged between 9 to 69 years who had no history of travel and were not in the designated quarantine centre.

“These are people we have tracked through contact tracing and also testing people who have come to us because they are feeling unwell,” said CS Kagwe.

The nine cases confirmed by the Health Ministry were discovered after it conducted tests from 800 samples in the last 24 hours.

A total of 2336 contacts have been monitored out of which 1911 have been discharged and another 455 are currently been followed.

In terms of counties, Nairobi County leads with 163 cases, followed by Mombasa with 36, Kilifi 9, Mandera 6, Kajiado 2, Nakuru 2, Siaya 2, Kakamega 1, Kwale 1 and Uasin Gishu 1.

In terms of local and importation of Covid-19 disease, Nairobi County registered 120 importation transmission cases with 43 locally transmitted.

22 cases in Mombasa County were locally transmitted and another 14 cases were registered as importation into the County.

Local transmitted Covid-19 cases in Kilifi are seven and two from outside the region while in Mandera County six of the confirmed cases were locally transmitted.

CS Kagwe cautioned Kenyans who are celebrating early saying that the country is not out of danger yet.

“We are not out of danger. We are aware that there are those looking at our figures and celebrating early. A comparative review of the countries now being overrun by the virus shows that they were reporting similar figures as we are now,” he said.

“Our 4.6% death rate is within the global range of 6.3%. Our figures should therefore not delude or deceive any of us into dropping the ball,” said CS Kagwe.

CS Kagwe also announced that the Ministry had received 18,900 swabs and viral transport medium, 18,912 extraction kits, 3790 medical disposable protective clothing, ventilation machines, thermometer guns and medical gloves from the Jack Ma Foundation.

The Ministry also received another consignment of medical gloves, surgical masks, face shields and gowns from China, Germany and France through the World Health Organization (WHO).

CS Kagwe appealed to Boda Boda operators to adhere to the outlined Covid-19 safety measures and urged Kenyans to wear masks to prevent them from contracting the disease.
