Kenya’s High Commissioner to the UK Manoah Esipisu will chair the Executive Committee of the Board of Governors of Commonwealth Secretariat following his appointment on July 10.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed Manoah was voted in by the fellow board members of from the other 53 Commonwealth member states, formerly British colonies.
“Kenya’s High Commissioner to the UK Manoa Esipisu has been appointed chairperson of the Executive Committee of the Board of Governors at the 54-member Commonwealth Secretariat,” the ministry stated.
He will succeed his colleague, Ellison Greenslade, Bahamas High Commissioner to the UK and Ireland.
The position is biennial.
The secretariat is the intergovernmental organisation that supports member countries to achieve the Commonwealth’s aims of development, democracy and peace.
Prior to becoming High Commissioner, Esipisu served as spokesperson for State House in Kenya until March 2019 when he officially assumed the new office.
The development came at a time Kenya was pushing to have Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed fill up the position of World Trade Organisation director-general.
