Keroche Breweries seeks 18-month window to clear tax arrears

Keroche Breweries Limited is seeking an 18-month extension from Kenya Revenue Authority Commissioner General in order to clear pending taxes.

KBL Chief Executive Officer Tabitha Karanja says the brewer which is embroiled in a tax tussle with KRA will however continue paying current taxes.

“Our humble appeal to the Commissioner-General to kindly but urgently request the re-opening of our plant to prevent huge losses as described above and enable us resume production, sales and distribution and most importantly protect and safeguard the livelihoods of thousands of Kenyans employed by the company both directly and indirectly,” said Karanja

According to Karanja. The Kshs. 22 billion tax claim has been miscalculated as the only arrears in question amounts to Kshs. 822 million.

For the period between January and December 2022, the brewer says its owes the taxman Kshs. 322 million contrary to Kshs. 351 million.
