Renowned Kenyan rapper Khaligraph Jones has penned a letter to the President of the Republic of Kenya, H.E Uhuru Kenyatta, on behalf of the Creative Industry of Kenya requesting him to reopen bars and clubs. In the letter posted on social media, the Lwanda Magere crooner explained that creatives were having a hard time maneuvering the hard Corona times without a source of income. Khaligraph also argued that most of their hit songs were being wasted since they have no one to perform to.

“@ukenyatta Kindly on behalf of the Creative Industry of Kenya we are requesting that you allow us to get back to work, allow for the reopening of Clubs and Restaurants,” he began by saying. The rapper promised to observe all the COVID-19 safety regulations put in place by the Ministry of Health to ensure no further spread of the virus.

“Measures and precautions shall be taken to ensure COVID-19 doesn’t further spread. The youth are suffering from depression in Silence, Kindly look into this matter. Also, some of our hit songs are going to waste. People want to see @femi_one and @mejjagenge perform Utawezana. Rada Chafu Sana, #respecttheogs,” read Khaligraph’s letter.

Letter to Raila

In a recent post, Khaligraph reached out to ODM party leader Raila Odinga’s son, Raila Junior, and asked him to speak to his father on behalf of the youths and convince Uhuru to heed their plea of reopening public places.

“@railajunior1 please speak with your dad, Mr. Agwambo Raila Amolo Odinga, tell him to speak to Uhuru Kenyatta to open up the country so that we can go back to work. People are hurting,” wrote Khaligraph.

The rapper seems to have emulated fellow musician Willy Paul’s mode of communication after the singer cried in an open letter to the President a few months back. Willy Paul asked the President to remember the music industry during the tough Corona times explaining that the entertainment industry was affected the most by the pandemic.

“My President, I have an issue. The entertainment scene has been hit badly and sadly no one seems to care about whatever is happening to us… entertainers from other countries e.g musicians, actors, producers, directors and comedians are getting help from their governments… and here no one is even saying a word. The other day you had a press conference and all of us expected to hear our President’s thought on the entertainment scene. Unfortunately, you did not mention a thing. Mr President, most of us depend on shows, gigs n e.t.c as we all know that our board of music has been having issues with the artists,” he began by saying.

“Dear Mr President, I’m just speaking from a musical perspective, if an established musician can feel the pinch like me, what about the uprising who only make 5000 shillings per gig and still have to pay rent and feed their families?”

To his amusement, the President allocated 100million to be distributed among musicians to help them manage the situation.
