President Uhuru Kenyatta, his deputy William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga were the only politicians who got the opportunity to speak during the State Funeral of retired President Mwai Kibaki.
The event took place at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi.
Of the three top leaders, the second in command stole the show.
When Nyeri Catholic Archbishop Anthony Muheria invited the DP to make his remarks, Nyayo Stadium erupted.
For a moment, thousands of mourners turned the event into a political rally.
The crowd cheered before the DP got to where his microphone was.
Archbishop Muheria had to remind the mourners that they were in a funeral and such cheering could mean they were not respecting the family.
“We request our Kenyans, out of respect to our late President to give him the honour he deserves,” the cleric pleaded.
In his tribute, the DP described Kibaki as the best President Kenya has ever had.
“When the history of Kenya is written, the late Mwai Kibaki will not fit into paragraphs nor chapters, we might need a separate book for him for what he has done to Kenya,” he said.
