The Kilimanjaro hotel located in Nairobi’s Banda street is one of the most popular high-end restaurants within the CBD. A day after news broke on the internet concerning the closure of the Alchemist Bar, pending investigations due to racial prejudice, Kilimajaro Hotel has been feeling the heat made by a customer who claimed that she was racially discriminated against by the hotels waiters. The hotel has been forced to clear up the air publicly stating that it was a misunderstanding.

Two days ago, a female customer, whose Facebook username is Gladly Nelly wrote on her account that she had been racially discriminated against when she was at the hotel, by waiters. She claims that she checked into the restaurant as usual with some of her friends and sat at a table on the balcony.

It was then that all the trouble started when several waiters asked them to leave the table and have a seat at another table. The waiters told her that the seat was reserved for an Arab man and her 4-year-old daughter who had made a reservation for that specific table. The customer did not take this lightly and began to throw tantrums at the place claiming that the waiters treated her and her friends rudely. She wrote on her account that she had been threatened by the waiters.

“We just left because we didn’t want to cause a scene in front of the Arab man and his child. We couldn’t believe that this could happen to us in our own country,” she wrote on her Facebook page.

The news broke on the internet and spread on the internet. At first, the hotel management apologized to her and asked her to take down the post she wrote. They also debunked claims that she was racially discriminated against. However, Nelly was not having any of their apologies and requests.

It was then that the Kilimajaro Hotel decided to take legal action and sue her for wrongful claims. In their statement, the restaurant said that the table was indeed reserved for the Arab man and his 4-year-old daughter but they were ignorant of the tag on the table. The management says that they have CCTV footage to prove their innocence and the waiters’ innocence.Kilimanjaro Hotel in Nairobi sues customer for defamation by racist claims.

As of now the Kilimanjaro hotel has decided to sue Nelly for wrongful accusations of racism, defamation of the hotel and for threatening their employees. The hotel says that she has made them lose so many customers in the space of less than a week and business has been low ever since she falsely accused them.
