The Kenya Premier League has official found a new home in the form of sponsors as Nigeria-based gaming firm Bet King is set to take over from next season.
This was after the Foodball Kenya Federation (FKF) reached an agreement with the firm on Thursday, July 16 to have them oversee the top-tier football league in the country.
President Nick Mwendwa had on Wednesday, July 15 hinted at a possible new lucrative sponsorship deal via his Twitter and confirmed BetKing had secured title rights barely 24 hours later.
“Yes! Back your game. It will be the Betking Premier League. Now you know,” the FKF boss shared on Twitter.
TUKO.co.ke has since learnt that the lucrative gaming firm will sponsor the local top-tier league to a tune of KSh 1.2 billion for the next five years.
Each Premier League team will effectively receive around KSh 8 million per year, according to Mwendwa.
The latest development marks an end to a two-year spell of uncertainly for the local league after the exit of their previous sponsors Sportpesa who walked away from the Kenyan market, citing frustration from the government.
