KPMG awarded contract to audit the IEBC Voters Register

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has declared that KPMG would begin reviewing the voter registration in the next two weeks, after winning the tender over four other organizations.

Marjan Hussein Marjan, speaking immediately after being sworn in as the Commission’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at the Supreme Court, said the deal with KPMG will be signed in the next 14 days.

“14 days will elapse early next week meaning that after that then we can sign the contract.  The law requires us to give that window period before signing the contract then after that we can commence on the audit of the voter register and we are currently in the process of consolidating the register,” stated Marjan.

Wafula Chebukati, the Commission’s Chairperson, stated that all procurement requirements are current, and that the commission is fully prepared to provide fair, free, credible, and transparent elections.

“We have a few days left to the August 9 elections and the commission is committed to give this country a free, fair and credible election. All our processes are up to date in terms of elections timeline. We have done almost all procurements and we are now working on the register of voters which we want to be ready in the next couple of days in time for audit having procured the audit firm which will undertake the process,” Chebukati said.

The chairman of the electoral body also noted that the commission will re-use the Kenya Integrated Election Management System (KIEMS) kits that were used in the 2017 general elections because the most of them are still in good working order.

Chebukati indicated that the commission will only order 14,000 more kits, based on the assumption that the number of polling stations will grow as more people register to vote.

Kenya’s General Elections are slated to take place on August 9, and politicians are already traveling around the nation to persuade citizens to vote for them.
