KQ seeking to move 8,000 Passengers and 720,000kgs of cargo in the first week of resuming international air travel

NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 1 – Kenya Airways is seeking to move 720,000 kilogrammes of cargo and 8,000 passengers in the next one week, following its resumption of international travel today.

The Airline said the projection is against its performance during the pandemic period, when it flew about 10,000 tonnes of cargo, between April and July performance.

Those who stand to benefit from the resumption of international travel include the Fresh Produce Exporters Association of Kenya and the Kenya Flower Council.

The Council’s CEO Clement Tulezi in a Tweet termed the resumption is a welcome relief to the industry.

“Europe remains one of our biggest markets for flowers. We destroyed a lot of fresh flowers when the markets initially closed,” Tulezi said.

On its part, the fresh produce body said the industry would enable them to export more fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices to key markets around the world.

“When government announced suspension of airspace, there was panic. KQ was courageous to put cargo flights in the air that put fresh produce, fruits and flowers in the air, ensuring Kenya feeds then world,” The Association said on Twitter.
