A law firm associated with former Nyando constituency seat aspirant, Sala and Mudany Company Advocates, has written to the OCS of Kisumu Central Police Station demanding the police to arrest Gem MP Elisha Odhiambo saying he assaulted Maurice Oduor on June 4 2019 at his place of work behind Awori House in Kisumu.
In the letter dated today July 17 2019, the complainant said since he reported the case at Kisumu Central Police Station on June 4 this year, police have taken no action against the MP over the matter.
“Our client made a report of assault against the said Elisha Ochieng Odhiambo at your police station on June 4 2019 vide OB Number 70/04/06/2019. Since then, one and half months down the line, no action has been taken to arrest the said offender and bring him to book,” part of the letter reads.
“This is to kindly request your office to ensure the arrest as per the report, and hand him over to the nearest court of law forthwith, so as to enable the issue take its lawful and necessary course,” it continues.
The letter has been copied to Kisumu county police commander, county Criminal Investigating Officer, District Criminal Investigating Officer, Independent Policing Oversight Authority and Commission on Administration of Justice.
Kisumu county police commander Benson Maweu was not available when journalists visited to seek his comment.
On June 4 this year, Ochieng accused Odhiambo of assaulting him at his place of work following a post he made on social media indicating that EACC had summoned Odhiambo over alleged graft in National Government Constituency Development Funds.
