Rapper and singer Lil Nas X found a unique way to raise money for charity: through a fake baby registry. You may have seen some weird photos of Lil Nas doing rounds on the internet where he looked very pregnant.
This was a campaign he did about six months ago where he was to “gave birth” to his studio album, MONTERO. During that time, he created a baby registry but instead of asking fans to spoil him with gifts, he instead encouraged people to donate to 16 important charities that assist underserved and vulnerable communities.
The unique fundraising he has been doing has now generated $500,000 which will go to organisations aimed at stopping the AIDS/HIV epidemic the American South. “I’m so thankful to everybody who donated to my baby registry and joined me in helping to transform all of these communities in the South,” he said in a statement. “Together we are giving much-needed resources to those who need it most – especially those impacted by HIV – and also helping inspire the leaders who are constantly fighting for HIV education and awareness.”
