– Liverpool were constantly denied a winner by the brilliance of Burnley keeper Nick Pope
– The Reds led in the first half courtesy of Andy Robertson but Burnley hit back in the second half
– Jurgen Klopp’s men will have to win their remaining three matches to set a new points tally record
Liverpool’s quest for a record Premier League points tally took a slight stumble as the champions were held to a 1-1 draw by a highly disciplined Burnley side.
The Reds were largely dominant throughout the match but were on numerous occasions left frustrated by the brilliance of Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope.
Pope came up with a string of brilliant saves in the first half to deny the likes of Mohammed Salah and Sadio Mane when both players looked certain to score.
Amid an onslaught of attacks from the home side, they eventually found the opener in the 34th minute when a brilliant Fabinho cross met the head of fullback Andy Robertson who headed home.
The game would have gone much worse for the Clarets but for the brilliance of their keeper, who looked something close to unbeatable on the day.
Despite playing the frightening Premier League champions, Burnley were the furthest thing from intimidated as they continued to push for an equaliser which eventually came in the second half albeit in contentious fashion.
