Kisumu governor Anyang Nyong’o is under pressure from residents, suppliers and contractors to crack the whip on his rogue officers who are said to be allegedly plundering the resources of the county.

Governor Nyong’o

Topping the list is the ever moody Diploma holder engineer at the roads department whose wife did a shoddy job in Nyalenda slums a couple of months ago and was hurriedly paid but hardly two weeks after his flagship was paid, the said construction work of Komoke- Kilo Kilo access road became deplorable to the chagrin of the residents.
The engineer’s wife is both a contractor and director of the company in question and no wonder many local contractors hardly get jobs worth under Sh2 million courtesy of a directive which was issued by the governor that jobs within that margin be handled by them. Those lucky to get a few of the contracts are subjected to bureaucratic antics until they give up thus foregoing even the fraction of the work they have done.
The engineer is said to be arrogant and corrupt and hardly appends a signature before his hands are greased. Half of the roads in the county are under his lock and key. During former governor Jack Ranguma’s regime, the notorious engineer was sent packing for a year but later managed to sneak himself back thanks to his financial warchest.

Jack Raguma

The governor has been asked probe the activities of the roads CEC who has been camping in one of the leafy suburbs where goat-eating sessions are said to be endless and bribery is said to be the hallmark.
Recently, an MCA of Kisumu county known for his construction appetite threatened to expose the CEC after realising that he only got a single road worth Sh2 million yet he had bribed the CEC heavily.
Interestingly the CEC, the engineer and the conned MCA hail from Seme constituency where the governor also comes from.
Sources told the press that the MCA has now vowed not to concentrate on county jobs littered with looting cartels but has instead embarked in doing business with Kenya Ports Authority, his initial roots before he plunged in the turbulent waters of politics.
The duo in the roads department has formed a well knitted clique.
The said CEC salvaged by the governor was deeply embroiled in Kenya Pipeline scams and was shown the door during the Mwai Kibaki regime.
The CEC has a 24-hour security detail that is only comparable to those of cabinet secretaries. Within the precincts of the apartment in the leafy Milimani suburb, he parks Mercedes Benzes being nicely covered for fear of vagaries of weather.
Food must be ordered in high end Kisumu eateries in the wee hours to his home in Seme.
