Deputy President William Ruto was not part of today’s programme during the Madaraka Day celebrations at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi.

After entertainment, President Uhuru Kenyatta was called to address the nation.

The Head of State recognised top dignitaries, including visiting Sierra Leone President and Chief Justice Martha Koome, but not Dr Ruto.

This was the time the DP was not granted permission to speak during a State function since Jubilee government surged to power in April 2013.

The reason behind the decision to Snub the second in command has not been revealed.

However, political pundits are of the view that it is an escalation of the rift between the President and his estranged deputy. In his long speech, Uhuru praised ODM leader Raila Odinga for supporting him to build his legacy.

He claimed that his administration has achieved a lot during the second term.

About his succession, the President asked Kenyans to make history by electing the first female Deputy President.

Raila picked Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua to deputise him ahead of the August General Election. The President supports the duo to replace him.
