Mama Hoyee! Uhuru Officially Endorses Martha Karua as Raila’s Running Mate

President Uhuru Kenyatta has congratulated Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua on her nomination as the running mate of Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

Speaking during the Madaraka Day celebrations at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi, the President said that Kenyans have a chance to elect their first female Deputy President in the August 9 General Election.

The Head of State noted that women are not lesser beings and should be given equal opportunities with men.

Since Karua was picked as Raila’s number two, today, 1st June, was the first time the Head of State reacted to her appointment. President Kenyatta is the Azimio chairperson and it is believed he had a hand in Karua’s selection.

The Kenyan leader credited himself with appointing women to key positions of leadership during his 10-year tenure. All Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretaries since 2013 have been women.

The President also appointed Nancy Gathungu as the first female Auditor-General.

It is also during his administration that the country got its woman Chief Justice, Martha Koome.

The President’s final five-year term ends in 68 days from today.
