As the coronavirus pandemic continues to ravage the world, governments around the world have imposed strict measures to curb the spread of the highly contagious disease.
One such measure is putting on of face masks in public as one way to control the spread of the respiratory illness which is spread through sneezing or coughing.

An Indian man has gone viral after he bought a $4,000 (KSh 420,000) gold plated mask to keep the virus away.
Shankar Kurhade, a businessman from the western city of Pune told Indian Express he did not buy the mask for publicity as he was taking all the necessary precautions to ensure he doesn’t contract the virus.
“It is a thin mask and has tiny pores that is helping me to breathe. I am not sure if it will be effective to protect me from a coronavirus infection but I am taking other precautions,” he said.
Kurhade revealed he had become popular and many people were requesting to take selfies with him.
“People are asking me for selfies. They are awestruck when they see me wearing the gold mask in markets,”he said.
The 49-year-old man said he likes to adorn himself with golden jewellery weighing over a kilogramme, including a bracelet, necklace and rings on each finger on his right hand.

The Indian government has made it mandatory for one to wear face masks in public.
As of Wednesday, July 8, the country had reported over 742,000 cases of COVID-19 out of which over 20,000 had lost their lives.
Globally, COVID-19 cases have topped up to over 11.9 million, 100,000 shy of the 12 million mark.
