Machewa MCA in Trans Nzoia Jeff Wambalaba is on the corruption radar after allegedly demanding for kickbacks in collaboration with the county executive committee member in charge of education.
This came into the limelight after the bursary committee vetted all forms of the applicants of the first disbursement before the public and presented them to the ward administrator as per the law to the CEC’s office.
It is said that after the ward administrator took the names to the education CEC, bank cheques were given out but the MCA realised that all funds were spent without considering his kickback from the same kitty, sources said.
He is said to have then quarreled the bursary committee members and the ward administrator. “Where is my Sh300,000 cheque? Hamjui nakula na mkubwa (You don’t know that I eat with boss)” he is quoted as saying in reference to the CEC.
The committee tried to convince the MCA to have a meeting and iron out the issue because there was no way such a cheque could be directed to unknown person as all cheques are directed to institutions.
After the ward administrator realised that the MCA was bitter for missing his share, and was in plan to lobby for the transfer, the administrator maneuvered to be transferred to another ward.
According to an inside source, Wambalaba took the anger to the bursary committee who were not to blame instead of to the administrator. The MCA has replaced the committee members secretly without due process as they were elected from different locations for a period of two years.
Already, forms of the second disbursement are in circulation.
