Leaders from the Embu and Meru communities are pushing for national assembly speaker Justin Muturi to be the region’s spokesman.
Their push comes as the contest to State House picks momentum with leaders from different communities retreating to their tribal cocoons to sharpen their political weapons ahead of 2022.
Reports indicate leaders from Embu and Meru communities have been meeting secretly to come up with a comprehensive arrangement that will see them in the next government.
The leaders have been engaging William Ruto pleading with him to choose Muturi as his running mate.
Speaking at a function in Siakago Secondary School, national assembly deputy chief whip Cecily Mbarire said they want the next deputy president to come from Embu county.

“We want our brothers from Kiambu, Murang’a, Nyeri and Nyandarua to support us this time round. We are pleading with DP Ruto to work with Muturi,” said Mbarire.
Her sentiments came at a time when the DP has been traversing the country seeking support from Kenyans in the pretext of launching development projects.
Others who have urged Ruto to pick Muturi as his 2022 running mate include Mbeere North MP Muriuki Njagagua.

The noted that Mount Kenya region will fully support Ruto if he picks Muturi as his running mate.
Muturi, according to the MPs, has not been implicated in any corruption and has a wealth of experience gained in public service for many years.
But Muturi was however charged with soliciting for a Sh1 million bribe in 1997 when he was a senior resident magistrate. He was acquitted, but the Judicial Service Commission did not reinstate him.
Speaking during a thanksgiving ceremony for Manyatta MP John Muchiri, Njagagua said Muturi would be ahead of the pack of those eyeing the running mate slot in Ruto’s presidential bid.

On his part, Tharaka Nithi MP Murugara Gitonga said he will speak to Senator Kithure Kindiki who is also eyeing runningmate position to allow Muturi to be Ruto’s running mate.

But Ruto has already endorsed Muturi for the Embu gubernatorial seat. The current Embu governor, Martin Wambora is serving his second and final term in office.
Speaking during Muchiri’s thankgiving ceremony, the DP said Jubilee party will decide who will be the flagbearer for every seat when the time comes.
Ruto agreed that Muturi has a wealth of experience as he was the chief whip when they were the leaders of the opposition and urged the lawmakers to support him fully to work for the people of Kenya as speaker in the remaining years.
JB as Muturi is popularly known, was first elected to the national assembly in a 1999 by-election to represent Siakago constituency on a Kanu ticket after the death of Silas Ita.
