If not for Franklin Murimi, very few people would have known a village by the name Kinyana village in Meru County existed.
He works as a farmhand for the family in whose backyard the he spotted a “lion” alerted the whole village.
His boss claims she had attended a community-based avocado-growing training the day before, following which they were sold seedlings in a large shopping bag.
“I didn’t pay it much mind because it was twilight. So I put it beneath the small bushy area in the garden,” the woman said.
No one else, for sure, paid attention to it. Murimi arrived the next morning.
“I was wandering around the property when my machete fell, and while I was scooping it up, I observed an animal, a lion, staring directly at me,” he said as quoted by Citizen digital.
They contacted the area chief, who ‘confirmed’ that it was definitely a lion, although only the head was visible.
One courageous person approached the now-odd ‘lion’ from behind to examine it, only to discover that it was a bag.
They had previously summoned Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) personnel, who were “astonished to find out that the ‘claimed lion’ was a lion printed carrier bag,” as the state agency later stated.
