A few weeks after missing on-air following spinal surgery, Citizen TV news anchor Yvonne Okwara made a comeback with an attack on Nairobi County Governor Mike Sonko stating that the City residents did not need him.
During a segment on Citizen TV’s News Gang on Thursday 6 August 2020, the news anchor stated that Mike Sonko should have resigned after he claimed that he was served with alcohol at State House during the signing of the deed of the transfer agreement.
Okwara went to on mention how Mike Sonko has been telling Nairobi residents from time to time how Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) under Major-General Mohamed Badi was bad for them.
She stated that Mike Sonko has been raising the issue of militarization in the County and complained about the diversion of resources to the entity that has been running the city.
Mike Sonko should have resigned! – Citizen TV news anchor comes back after surgery to attack Sonko.
Okwara questioned Mike Sonko’s claims of being served alcohol before putting pen to paper on the dotted line.
“Worst still was how he got the said alcohol. That he was supposedly provided by officials at State House just before the handover process? I don’t know about you but I have some questions. Did he have a gun to his head? Is he saying that he was force-fed the alcohol like a mother does to his stubborn toddler? He had no saying in the matter? Also, I would imagine that he had discussions in the matter prior to the actual signing event,” she posed.
Okwara claimed that it was a mockery of the whole process of his election, Nairobi residents and of society that Mike Sonko was still in office.
“In any civilized society, democracy even, he should have resigned from that position all together after making that claim and give up whatever little power has been left up with. It also makes a mockery of the whole process of his election, of Nairobi residents or our society for him to make this claim and still be in the office,” she stated.
