Starehe MP Charles Kanyi, popularly known as Jaguar, has the been the talk of the internet for the better part of today, April 6, after reports emerged that he had ceded ground for his competitor in the forthcoming election.

Jaguar want to defend his seat on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket, but he is facing a cut-throat competition from East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Simon Mbugua.

Mbugua, who previously represented Kamukunji constituency, is giving Jaguar a run for his money.

Social media was awash with reports that Deputy President William Ruto, the UDA party leader, had brokered a truce between the two, with the sitting MP agreeing to withdraw from the race in favour of Mbugua.

In a statement this afternoon, the first-time lawmaker insisted that he was firmly in the race and anyone expecting him to give up the position was daydreaming.

“As the sitting M.P of Starehe Constituency I would like to inform my constituents that I have not stepped down for any aspirant and I have not held any discussions with the Deputy President in regards to this matter.

“I was elected by the people of Starehe and I have the mandate to represent them. I will not be party to any negotiations,” he said.

He trolled Mbugua, saying he was a coward and that’s why he switched from Kamukunji to Starehe for an “easy competition” .

Sources have revealed that the EALA MP opted to move to Starehe because Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan enjoys a fanatical following in the area mainly inhabited by the Somali community.

Jaguar dared Mbugua to face him in the UDA nominations scheduled for April 14.
