The Ministry of Health is set to launch an accelerated Covid-19 vaccination campaign targeting Nairobi county.
This is in response to a spike in cases in the recent past. The positivity rate stands at 3.6pc after 94 people tested positive for the disease, from a sample size of 2,590 tested in the last 24 hours.
On Tuesday it was at 4.4 pc after 117cases were reported. Of the new infections, Nairobi county accounts for the highest number with 221 cases reported in the last three days.
The latest drive is in collaboration with Nairobi Metropolitan Services, WHO, USAID and UNICEF.
“Nairobi county poses a threat of another pandemic wave owing to its high population density. In the last 48 hours, the county has reported the highest number of new Covid-19 infections” said a statement from the Ministry.
The accelerated Covid-19 vaccination campaign targets to have at least 70pc of the population in the capital vaccinated in the next six weeks. Currently, 48.9pc of the population is vaccinated.
Total confirmed positive cases are now 325,070 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 3,672,769.

Health PS Susan Mochache is presiding over the launch this morning at Kibera level 3 Hospital.
