Morocco has announced an increase in the minimum wage of public and private sector workers. The minimum monthly wage in the public sector will be raised 16%, whereas the private sector minimum monthly wage will be raised by 10% within two years.

For the public sector, the minimum wage will increase to $350 net per month. For the private sector, the 10% increase will be implemented in two stages: 5% in September 2022, and 5% in September 2023.

The agreement also includes an increase in family allowance and retirement benefits.

In Kenya, President Uhuru Kenyatta also increased the minimum wage by 12% with effect from 1st May 2022, seeking to cushion workers against further erosion of their purchasing power, attributed to increased cost of living.
